2017 in Review : Albums Of The Year — Part I

2017 has flown by it seems, and with the end of, here is the first part of the records that we enjoyed the most this year. Here are our albums of the year.

Movements Feel Something
MOVEMENTS – Feel Something

This record has been out for less than 2 months, and I already feel like I can’t live without it. Its name says it all, but rather than “Feel Something”, I would even say Feel Everything : the feelings you get while listening to this record are overwhelming, they take over all of your soul. The songs hunt you throughout the day. Every fibre of your heart is pulled and plugged into a high voltage transmission line. I don’t know if it’s magic or witchcraft but for me, this album is just beyond words.

Citizen
CITIZEN – As You Please

Another great great great record of 2017. The consistency of Citizen’s greatness blows my mind each time. This band seems out of this timeline; they know exactly how to provide you with that disconnection you need from your daily routine. And this record manages to do that, and is simply one of the highlights of my year. Emotions just keep flowing from each song, and I love it!

stray from the path
STRAY FROM THE PATH – Only Death Is Real

You never know when the next punch is coming from with these guys ; the only thing you know is that it’s coming. “Only Death Is Real” has it all: the power, the hunger, the engagement, the lyrics, well, the SFTP signature. They have high standards and they won’t settle for nothing less than brilliant. And to manage to have such a powerful record as a statement about how much f*cked-up the world is currently, is just remarkable.

while she sleepsWHILE SHE SLEEPS – You Are We

I don’t even need to tell you about “You Are We”, because everyone knows how much I adore these guys and everything they do. Their latest record is an absolute phenomenon in my eyes (and ears). Plus, the DIY print suits them to the upmost; their hunger to be better with every new release, to be at the root of all of their craft, to outdo themselves each time, can only inspire those who listen to them and all those surrounding them. I grew to respect While She Sleeps, even beyond the musical aspect of the band, for the remarkable path they have managed to carve on their own. Also, this record holds so many anthemic songs that I will certainly stick with me for so many years. You are definitely invited to blast Hurricane in full force at my funeral.

.

Honorable mention goes out to the following records:

  • Stick To Your Guns – True View
  • Sorority Noise – You’re Not As ___ As You Think
  • Tigers Jaw – Spin
  • Brand New – Science Fiction
  • Counterparts – You’re Not You Anymore
  • Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes – Modern Ruin
  • Creeper – Eternity, In Your Arms
  • Turnover – Good Nature

2017 brought the best out of my favorite bands (and this includes Enter Shikari‘s “The Spark”) and I can’t wait for 2018 and even more great music!

I’m Yousra, in love with most of the things that earth has to offer, and isn’t music one of its most amazing wonders ? In that purpose, I try to always be on the look-out for every new band that will make my ears happy and my soul filled again.
