Vainstream Rockfest is a 1 day German festival, located in Münster, which takes place early in the summer. Now, while the event has been in our radar for a while, we’ve finally been able to set foot there for the first time through photographer Natasja De Vries’ eyes.
The festival hosted bands such as Stick To Your Guns, Bury Tomorrow (who played a free show at the same venue the night before), local heroes Caliban and Heaven Shall Burn. Here’s how our first time altogether exploring Vainstream went.
“Vainstream festival 2016 was my first time collaborating with PLUGIN-MAG(dot)COM. I’m glad that they found me and liked my work because I have been photographing music for only a year now. Furthermore, having never been to Vainstream before, it was a new experience for me. It was also the first time I photographed a one day festival, instead of a whole week end of performances. Mainstream had a killer line-up and I was able to photograph 15 bands throughout the day, which is a consistent number for me. As the photopit was always very busy, there’s wasn’t enough space to move around freely and I had to be really fast.
The stage was awesome, although a little bit high for me, but I like to be challenged! In terms of organization, the schedule was set in a way that the transitions between bands was smooth; it allowed me to shoot many bands and I didn’t have to wait long, or rush in between the sets. With that being said, my legs were dying by the end of the day, but it was totally worth it!
The one performance I was really excited to photograph was Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes because I had heard they know how to put on a great show, and it really was! They gave me a lot of diversity in my photos and this was brilliant.”
